The California Arts Council, the state’s arts agency, has announced the open call for applications from young creative writers to serve as California’s first-ever Teen Poet Laureate. This new and prestigious position is open to all teenaged poets ages 13-19 residing in California. The role’s two-year term offers a unique opportunity to represent California’s younger generations and collaborate with the California Poet Laureate, with the specific aim of bringing the poetic arts to students with limited exposure to poetry. The position comes with a $10,000 stipend and requires a minimum of six public readings and the development and undertaking of a significant poetry project. Interested teens shouldn’t miss this chance to become a part of California’s literary history and inspire others through poetry. The deadline to apply is November 30, 2025.
